Louis-James-Alfred Lefébure-Wély erlebte eine Entwicklung, bei der man versuchte, durch konsequenten Bruch mit den Traditionen auch auf der Orgel den Anschluss an die allgemeine musikalische Entwicklung zu halten. Durch die Übernahme von Formtypen anderer Gattungen entstanden melodiöse und graziöse Stücke sowie rhythmisch geprägte Tänze und Märsche, die gleichwohl als liturgische Musik im Gottesdienst dienten. Das hier von International Brass für Blechbläser bearbeitete Offertoire diente zur Gabenbereitung und wurde bei der feierlichen Beweihräucherung des Altars gespielt.
